Tailored & Timeless with Creative Land Use

Creative home design often starts with creative land use. On this 63-foot-wide Central Austin site, Making Modern Home used Austin’s HOME Initiative to create two individual residences rather than a repeated pair. Each was designed with its own street frontage, park-facing orientation, private outdoor space and distinct architectural identity—allowing both homes to capture views of the mature trees and greenbelt while offering entirely different living experiences.

Gracious, luminous and tailored, 2102 thoughtfully references homes of yore, where proportion, scale, craftsmanship and European influences—particularly French—made homes not only timeless and livable, but impressive and welcoming. A classic brick-and-stucco exterior and elevated front terrace introduce the home, while inside, soaring ceilings, generous proportions, curved walls, arches, skylights and a custom staircase establish the architectural language.

The vaulted great room forms the heart of the home, connected to a courtyard pool through a dramatic wall of divided-light French doors. Fluting and graceful curves become recurring motifs—from the custom marble fireplace surround to the casing, range hood and lighting—while aubergine zellige, warm wood cabinetry, leathered Pietra Gray marble and natural stone create a rich, layered palette.

Real herringbone wood floors, substantial high-profile casing, sculpted solid molded doors and detailed millwork reinforce an approach rooted in authentic materials and craftsmanship. That attention continued through the final presentation of the home. Building upon the initial staging, Making Modern Home completed the styling with vintage textiles, collected objects and personal heirloom pieces—extending the design narrative through the final layer and giving the interiors the sense of history and permanence envisioned from the beginning.
